Baby Hearne is a GIRL! Taylor and I were absolutely shook when we found out at our anatomy scan on August 5th, 2022 (at my 20 week mark). We were pretty certain it was going to be a boy because that is what the majority of Hearne's produce. Granted, I kept my mind a tad open to a girl because my SIL just had the first Hearne girl in 50 years. I know, 50 years! So you can see why I was still convinced we would have a boy.
We decided to throw a donut themed gender reveal party the day after our anatomy scan. It took awhile to decide on a theme, but there were two main factors that landed us here: first was that Taylor had a gig that evening so it need to be around brunch and then from that we chose donuts because Taylor loves donuts. Now, we knew the gender already, but we wanted to do something fun for our close friends and family members. I made the invites on Canva and sent them out using paperlesspost.com
We decided to use a piñata to reveal the gender of the baby. I purchased a small donut piñata from Amazon, but it can also be found on Target. [Yes it is pink, but we bought it before we knew the gender and literally could not find a piñata with white icing.] We chose to pull a flap to release the confetti as opposed to whacking the piñata. I purchased blue and pink confetti (blue & royal blue / pink & hot pink) from Amazon to stuff the piñata and pastel ribbon from Dollar Tree to pull open the flap I cut at the bottom of the piñata. I 100% could have bought just one pack of confetti, but I wanted two different shades. In hindsight, I could have put half of each pack in there... I am honestly still finding confetti every week and its almost been a month. We bought biodegradable confetti just in case the weather was nice and we could do it outside, but we ended up revealing inside. However, it still was a good purchase because as people were leaving some ventured outside.
It was a bunch of fun finding donut decor for the party! I found the majority of items on Amazon like the tassel garland (pictured above) "boy or girl" foil balloons (last pic) and donut stickers (shown below) for guest to guess the gender. The donut stickers were easy to separate into pink and blue donuts with them being perforated. It came with 500 stickers and 8 different colors. We ended up using the two pink and two blue donuts. I will say though that I wish they did a different shade of frosting for the blue donuts because the sprinkle change between the two were too subtle. I created the signs on Canva to match the invites. I sent the "He or She" image to Staples to print and then used spray glue to attach it to a poster board.
As I was scrolling through Pinterest for ideas, I found an adorable donut banner from Etsy. The seller was great too because by the time I found these, there was a possibility it would arrive after the scheduled gender reveal date and when I messaged her to see if it would arrive in time she responded quickly and let me know if I ordered that day (Thursday) that she could mail it out on Monday. The delivery ended up arriving quickly and turned out adorable!
Since the reveal was at 11 AM, we chose to have brunch food. We of course had to have donuts, so I picked some up that morning from Shipley's, Taylors favorite. I of course had to get pink and blue donuts, so I got half a dozen of those, a dozen chocolate donuts (some with sprinkles and some without), and slid some donut holes and mini powdered donuts onto skewers I has painted the ends of pink and blue. We also had juices and lemonade as well as a "momosa" bar for those who could drink alcohol.
We had a great time celebrating the exciting news with our favorite people. I even had a zoom going for our out of town friends and family who wanted to join and they were grateful they were included in the excitement! It was so much fun setting up for the party and even more fun with people knowing the gender now because keeping it a secret for 24 hours was a challenge haha. Boy or a girl we would have been equally as happy, but we cannot wait to meet our precious baby GIRL.
